Quarter 3 Ethics in "Brave New World"

Aldous Huxley believes that modern world would depend on materialistic things to be happy, he also believes that we would try to make life easier by eliminating "life" and that we'll be all over the place.
In "Brave New World", the people depend on soma for their happiness. However, this novel tries to explain whether it is real happiness. People abused soma so they would feel "good". Linda lost her life because she overused the drug. These drugs were provided to the people which was unethical.
Things such as pain, illnesses etc were eliminated to make life easier. What is the point of a life without struggle and pain? Everyone has to go through trials and triumph in other to sympathize with others. In this case, life was "good".
This was a dystopia. Everything was all over the place. Especially if people were not filled with soma. Children had sex like it was nothing. It also seemed like nobody cared except the Savage because they had being conditioned so much.
Argument Timed Write

In this timed write, students had to write an essay that argues on our position on the extent to which Wilde's claims. In my essay, I wrote about why I agreed to his quote (above). My claim was that "it is a valuable human trait and that it promotes social progress". To support my first claim, I talked about human nature and their tendency to rebel or disobey after being treated unfairly. This goes back to how many terrorist attacks occur. It has nothing to do with the laws in their religion but how they are treated unfairly. My other claim (social progress) was backed up by examples like the Boston Tea Party, and Women Suffrage.
Reflection

3rd Quarter! I learned a lot this quarter like understanding and knowing the difference between ethics and morals, civil disobedience and how it all started. I meant my goal like 80%. My goal was to manage my time and improve my writing. I kinda finished most of my essays and timed writes. I think I deserve the grade I earned this quarter because of the hard work I put in. I think the most meaningful assignment was an assignment on civil disobedience. It opened my eyes on how much our ancestors fought to give us the freedom and rights we take for granted. I do not wish we skipped anything this quarter everything we did was really useful. I'm looking forward to practice more multiple choice questions for the exam. I always fail when we have a practice exam. My goal is to practice more before the exam.
